My Radio Show
During my college years, I was part of the KRUI radio station where I co-hosted the show “timely();” with my friend Sarah. We connected through the Informatics program and our shared interests in coding, humor, and music. The name “timely” was inspired my Anri’s 1983 album, TIMELY!, and the stylization drew from JavaScript syntax, a language we learned at Iowa. In JavaScript, functions are denoted by parentheses () and a semicolon ; marks the line’s end. This title captured our love for coding, humor, and music.
Each week, Sarah and I would curate a theme for our Monday show. Here’s a glimpse into some of our playlists we put together:
Summer? More Likely Than You Think
A collection of songs that encapsulate the essence of those cherished summer moments.
Songs We’d Put On The Voyager 1 Golden Record
We explore the tunes we’d immortalize, had we been given the chance, before Voyager 1 embarked on its interstellar journey in 1977.
Pretty Landscapes
A playlist that transports you to picturesque vistas through a selection of songs that evoke the beauty of scenic landscapes (visually symbolized by the iconic Windows XP background).
Utilizing the Spotify streaming service, we took turns selecting the weekly theme. Building on that foundation, each of us contributed our song selections in alignment with the chosen theme.
Take a listen to our "Hue Are You?" playlist, brimming with tracks that feature colors in their titles or lyrics.
Training Director
In addition to hosting a radio show at KRUI, I took on the role of Training Director, where I had the privilege of mentoring new DJs and guiding them in the intricacies of operating our broadcasting equipment. This included teaching them the ropes of utilizing microphones, CD players, turntables, and the mixing board, among other essentials. Drawing from my own experiences as a novice, it was exceptionally fulfilling to assist others on their journey.
My passion for music, whether it's through listening, playing, or engaging in conversations about it, has always been an integral part of my life. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to seamlessly weave my interests into my professional roles and extracurricular activities.
